Create perfect inlays using router templates.

Use this ‘electric guitar’ template to add a unique touch to cutting boards, charcuterie boards, or any other wooden object. It is ideal for epoxy resin inlays.

Dimensions:

Template is 5.75″ wide by 14.2″ tall (146 x 360 mm)

Guitar profile is approximately 4.1″ x 12.75″ (104 x 324 mm)

Template is made from 4 mm high quality plywood.

How to use: This template is designed to be used with a router inlay kit. The kit should include a guide bushing, collar, 1/8 spiral bit, and centering pin for your router base plate. See recommend tools and step by step process below.

Reusable template: These plywood templates can be reused multiple times if removed carefully and used with this double-sided tape (which won’t damage the wood or leave any residue). Plywood templates may not be suited for large batch production.

Recommended tools:

Recommended process:

  1. Secure your workpiece to the work surface.
  2. Secure the template to your workpiece using this double-sided tape.
  3. Make sure to center your router’s base plate using the centering pin included in your router inlay kit.
  4. Using the 1/8 spiral bit and guide bushing (without the collar), follow the inside contour of the template (in a clockwise direction) to carve the outline of the shape.
  5. Use a larger shallow plunge bit like this one to carve out the rest of the inner shape. Be mindful to stay inside the shape and not touch the edges.
  6. Carefully remove the template with a small pry bar.
  7. Pour epoxy resin to fill the cavity (make sure the workpiece is level) and allow to cure.
  8. Sand flush, up to 400 grit or higher.

Tip: You may not achieve perfect results on the first try, so it is recommended to practice first.
